Job Description

An Elementary School in Lewistown, PA is seeking an experienced Educational Interpreter (ASL) to support a fully deaf kindergarten student on a 1:1 basis. This is a contract position for the upcoming school year (NSY), offering a rewarding opportunity to assist a young learner as she transitions from early intervention to elementary education.

Responsibilities:

• Provide one-on-one ASL interpreting services for a kindergarten student with cochlear implants
• Facilitate communication between the student, teachers, and classmates to support academic and social engagement
• Collaborate with another onsite interpreter who supports a 2nd-grade student, allowing for shared resources and guidance
• Adapt interpreting methods in accordance with the students needs and school curriculum
• Participate in meetings and training sessions as required

Qualifications:

• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and experience working with children in grades K-5
• Previous experience interpreting for deaf students with cochlear implants preferred
• Ability to work effectively within an educational environment
• Strong communication and collaboration skills

Location:

• Fully onsite position at an elementary school approximately 20 minutes from Penn State and about an hour from Harrisburg, PA
